We're here...

"You know when you picture in your mind exactly what you want to happen in that moment-- and then it does?"

This is what my friend Mike said at last years Super Bowl party as he introduced a pretty blonde whose name I can't remember now. The point is, I thought of him saying that with such enthusiasm when Sarah asked me to write a feelie blogpost about how now Glaze Fire exists somewhere outside my mind.

We opened the store Labor Day weekend this year making countless notebooks of ideas and sketches for renovations to at least a dozen other properties we considered along the way in Los Angeles's hyper-competitive real estate market obsolete. Those notebooks are the only thing left of the heartbreak that at times in the beginning this lovely little art studio caused me as I struggled to make other people believe. Then Sarah believed.

Now I go to work everyday with my favorite people and the work is helping people make art. It's pretty much exactly what I wanted to have happen in my mind.

But I'll let you in on a legendary inside joke: Mike was talking about seeing the pretty blonde girl eat a corndog in the beer aisle at the supermarket moments prior. And it took me four long years to make Glaze Fire a reality. The reality is usually not the approved-for-all-audiences-meet-cute-movie-montage-feelie-blogpost you envision before you start (it wasn't).

But sometimes if you're lucky like us, it becomes that after you finish, if you finish well. Because all's well that ends well.

Oh, and location, location, location...

xo, Mary
